Gov Eno’s aide tackles critics over renewed media attacks
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso, has criticized detractors of the current administration for their renewed media attacks and campaigns of calumny.
Dr. Ndueso described recent criticism of Governor Umo Eno’s decision to reward a young Nigerian, Precious Bodunde, with ₦10 million for her exceptional ability to pronounce the five longest words in the English dictionary as “mischievous.”
Speaking during a television interview in Uyo, he noted that such baseless accusations were not surprising, as political opponents have failed to find fault with the governor’s overall performance.
“These are the same people who campaigned against the Governor before his election, accusing him of not being a giver. Now, they are criticizing him for giving,” Ndueso remarked.
He dismissed claims that the governor prioritizes outsiders over his own people, emphasizing that Governor Eno has consistently provided incentives and support for Akwa Ibom residents, particularly the underprivileged and young creative minds.
Dr. Ndueso highlighted the following achievements of Governor Eno: Educational Grants: A ₦10 million grant awarded to Master Kentimfon Ndanyongmong, the winner of the 2023 Heirs Life Essay Competition.
Support for Aviation Students: ₦79 million allocated to cover fees for four Akwa Ibom students admitted to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.
Bursary Increases: Bursaries for undergraduates in public tertiary institutions increased from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, and for specialized programs, from ₦10,000 to ₦30,000.
He also pointed out that Governor Eno was the first in Nigeria to launch a free food program for the less privileged and is currently disbursing ₦750 million to 60,000 unemployed youths.
“Where were these critics when the Governor sponsored the training of 1,200 youths through Ibom-LED, where 800 participants received ₦500,000 each, and 400 others received ₦750,000 each as start-up grants?
“Why are they ignoring the free training for 200 youths across the state’s 31 local government areas at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Center, where trainees receive a monthly allowance of ₦20,000, free accommodation, and feeding?” he asked.
Dr. Ndueso urged Akwa Ibom residents to focus on promoting the state and supporting Governor Eno’s developmental efforts.
“Rather than join others in attacking the Governor’s good deeds, Akwa Ibomites should market the state to attract investors. Unity among the people is key to ensuring that the government’s initiatives create meaningful change,” he concluded.
